Day 7 - Your Zodiac Sign and if you think it fits your personality
An appropriate one today considering my confession yesterday about my obsession with star signs. I think the only reason they ever work is that they are so vague...that and the fact that if you truly believe you project that and make it happen.
Anyway - my sign is Capricorn, right on the cusp though (very nearly an Aquarius).
Pretty true to my sign - ambitious, stubborn, likes plans and hates change. I am completely loyal, trusting, and faithful. Never angry.
So yes, most of it rings true for me. I do think my emotionality is not typical of what they claim a Capricorn should be - I am so up and down and all over the place. I also fall in love easily, which is the opposite of what they claim.
All in all, reasonably true, but isn't it true of most people?
Day 6 - 30 Facts about Myself
I have been trying to get around to doing this one all day - it's not one of the easier ones because it involves more thought! (Don't ask about the chicken photo...long story) I am still completely mopey. I hope this improves - I am trying my best to keep busy, but at night I get sad and sit around being super mopey and wondering if the Boy misses me at all. And then I think 'god, another 20 bloody days' and it just seems so long!
Anywho, here are 30 facts about me:
1. I am not a natural redhead but a lot of people make the assumption because of my freckles and skin tone.
2. I have three degrees, and have been studying at uni on and off for about 17 years or so.
3. I am a natural speed reader and can read a book in an hour(ish). In early primary they thought I was faking it, but then I ended up skipping a grade instead.
4. In primary school I used to pretend my middle name was Georgina (like George from the Famous 5) because I don't have one.
5. I spent my senior year on exchange to Kentucky.
6. I have started learning to play the ukulele.
7. I have about 120 pairs of shoes (which I am now selling off due to my unemployment!)
8. I lost my father to cancer when I was 27 (and he was 56). It forced me to grow up.
9. My cats have all been named after brands of vodka.
10. I collect massive cocktail rings and wear them everywhere (except the gym).
11. I am allergic to all metals except for pure gold.
12. I am a passionate and emotional person, which I can't seem to change about myself (wish I could sometimes). I cry too often and obsess about things I cannot change.
13. I have 6 tattoos and I am dying to get more.
14. I love dancing although I am uncoordinated - in the past I have done bellydance, 4 years of poledance, lap dance, and am currently just moving up to the intermediate class in burlesque.
15. I marched in the Adelaide Fringe Parade in my knickers (as seen on this blog), which is when I met the Boy (at the Silent Disco).
16. My first concert was Bon Jovi in around 1987.
17. I struggle constantly with my weight, always wanting to lose the last 5 kilos. This is probably leftover from 13 years ago when I was anorexic. I should just relax about it!
18. I am a karaoke fiend - not good at it, but I ran a karaoke night for two years, so I have no shame. I do always get a standing ovation for my rendition of Ice Ice Baby.
19. I am obsessed with squirrels.
20. I am planning to do a trip to the Greek Islands for my 40th (3.5 years away).
21. I tell people I don't believe in star signs, but I obsessively read Jonathon Cainer's every single morning to see how my day is going to go.
22. I still count on my fingers.
23. I am terrible at camping. I hate the great outdoors.
24. I love glowsticks, fairy lights and anything glittery.
25. I suffer from terrible insomnia - I was hooked on sleeping pills previously and I have only just gotten off them again, but I am struggling at the moment.
26. I haven't swum in the sea since I was about 12, as a result of growing up in Port Lincoln (home of the great white).
27. I radiate heat in bed at night (which doesn't help with the insomnia!).
28. I have a permanent ringing in my ears from a Nick Cave concert years ago. No regrets though.
29. I have worn glasses since I was 10 - planning to get laser later this year. Although when I am not wearing my glasses I keep poking myself between the eyes when I try to push them up.
30. I used to be obsessed with Christian Slater when I was young - I had 315 posters of him.

Day 5 - A time you thought about ending your own life

Wow - heavy topic for Day 5! First will give a mini update on my (non-exciting) life. The Boy left yesterday morning, so to distract myself from the fact that I wasn't allowed to go and say goodbye, my friend took me out. Of course there was waaaay too much vodka involved, and a whole lot of karaoke (on my part). Needless to say I spent yesterday moping, and feeling even more sorry for myself. The Boy would have arrived last night, but I have not heard a word from him....I am left wondering when I will (3 days is my prediction). I guess this is the difference between men and women - if it was my I would have let him know I had arrived safely!
On to the topic at hand - Suicide.
I guess there is one time in my life I seriously contemplated it, and that would have been 16 years ago, at the height of my anorexia. I think after I had been hovering at 30 kilos for a whole year, I just got to the point where I couldn't see any kind of light at the end of this particular dark tunnel. It took a stay in hospital, and a great counsellor to shake off this feeling. I never actually attempted anything though, it was strictly thoughts only...

Day 4 - Your views on religion
Another controversial one! Well not in my book, but it does get people the world over excited:)
I have always been an atheist - I was raised as one, never done the church thing etc. While I appreciate facets of religions I have no desire to convert at any stage. I do love the history of religion, and the beauty of religious buildings and images, and I often visit temples/churches when traveling.
Over the years I have had a few friends who have converted and become quite devout, and I am totally fine with that. The one thing I cannot stand is when people push their religion onto others - I'm happy if people offer information, but when that turns into pushing....
I do dislike the amount of hypocrisy it seems to bring - particularly when people over emphasise the exact wording of a religious document, over embracing the spirit of what it is teaching.

Day 3 - Your views on drugs & Alcohol

An interesting one for Day 3. Especially considering what a mess I am today, and how much I feel like just getting drunk (how apt!). I dropped The Boy off to work this morning - he flies out tomorrow morning, but he is spending the night with his parents so I don't get to se him. He said he is terrible at goodbyes. I stupidly blurted out my feelings when I dropped him off and it didn't get much of a response. So I am feeling a bit like Carrie in that episode of SATC when she tells Big she loves him. Crap:(
On a bright note I do have an interview next week.
Anyway - onto the topic at hand. I love alcohol - more of a wine drinker these days. I still struggle to keep my intake down, I am not great at stopping at one. And I tend to 'binge drink'. Not have anything on weekdays and then go out on a friday night and drink a whole bottle. I think everyone I know drinks like this!
Ever since I became unemployed (3 days!) I must admit I have felt bored and that is making me want to drink at night. I am a bit of a wine snob - I don't do goon. I love red and white equally but hate champagne.
And drugs? I came of age in the 90s, and back in my early clubbing days we took Es like most other club goers I knew. I dated a few ravers, so I certainly partook (I don't think I could have tolerated the music if I hadn't). That kind of all stopped quite a few years back, when I just got too old for that shit. It doesn't bother me if others do though - personal choice and all that, as long as you are aware of the risks more power to you. I would rather go the wine these days!

Day Two - Where You would like to be in 10 years
The simple answer to where I want to be in ten years - is traveling. The big love of my life has always been travel, and I haven't done as much as I would like. No South America, Africa or mainland Europe yet. I have already made plans to spend my 40th in the Greek Islands ala Shirley Valentine (only 3.5 years away - eep!)
I just need a travel companion - the two things that stop me from traveling as much as I would like (part from cash!) are a companion and leave...
Moving on in May - Day One!
I need to get back into blogging (particularly now I am momentarily unemployed!), so I am taking up this challenge courtesy of the lovely Teacup Grunge:). So here we go with Day 1!
DAY ONE: Your current relationship....
Well, I have been seeing The Boy for nearly three months now - we met at the Silent Disco:) I am completely head over heels for him, and really, what's not to love - he's gorgeous, funny, smart and talented. I love that he is musical (a guitarist), and since we have been seeing each other I have gotten out and seen so many local gigs. And I do love watching him on stage - so sexy!
But....I still have no idea of what we are - or to use a term from the tv show Awkward, we need to DTR (define the relationship). I would love to be his girlfriend of course, I feel like I am, I am just too chicken to ask!
Anyways, he does make me really happy and I feel super lucky to have met him, particularly after some terrible relationships over the years (although you don't get to be 36 without your heart being somewhat battered and bruised).
